Here are a few tips about using Mastodon

1) You can't do full-text searching of Mastodon posts. You CAN search for hashtags, though. Keep that in mind when you're creating content...if you want folks to discover it, use hashtags.

2) There is nothing equivalent to Quote Tweets in Mastodon. There are reasons. Just don't knock yourself out looking for the feature, because it doesn't exist, at least not right now.

3) There is no algorithm. You will see your friends' posts in order, as they happen. It's kinda neat, like the early days of the internet. (Usenet was magic.)

4) Because of #3 above, "starring" a post doesn't actually do anything except give good mojo to the poster. If you really want to make a difference, though, you can "boost" their post (it's the same thing as a "retweet", and it will show up in your timeline, so all your followers will see it).
